Through Highs and Lows

While the title may seem a bit harsh, this article will in no way, shape, or form be one filled with hate and bashing a man when he's down. Less than a week ago Jon Jones had his biggest title defense to date. This personal feud with Cormier culminated, at least for now, inside that octagon for a five round spectacle. Twenty five total minutes of fighting that every MMA fan had to have enjoyed. Although I try to remain as neutral and down the middle with all this writing, I must admit I was happy Jones retained.

This story is an example of how life can take random turns for the better or worse. Sure, Jones is the man with the belt around his waist. But now the champ must face his biggest battle to date. It will be against his toughest opponent. Yes, it is he himself. No matter what happens we are all our toughest opponent. Jones was tested December 3rd and the results came in the 23rd. The only reason why he was still able to fight was that the drug found in his system isn't banned from competition by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

The positive part of what's happened is that Jon Jones himself went to the drug treatment facility. He has a problem and is willing to put the work in so he can be back and healthier. While it is wrong that Jones was taking a drug that is a metabolite in cocaine, you have to give him credit. He knows he needs the help and is willing to get it. For any of those who care or want to learn something knew today, the name of the drug is called benzoylecgonine. Benzoylecgonine is a topical analgesic and like said before, the main metabolite in cocaine. It is also used as the main pharmesuetical ingredient for esterom, a topical solution used for the relief of muscle pain.

Many different athletes in all areas of sports have, will, and continue to take any sort of drugs that'll enhance their performance or relieve them of pain. The good in this story is that Jones isn't in denial about the problem at hand. Everybody in life goes through good and bad. The difference is that those who are successful and accountable will try to make things right when they know they must. Jones has already apologized to everyone he needed to. He has the full backing of his family and the UFC. Hopefully this issue will be fixed as soon as possible so he can get back to doing what he does. That, is being the best fighter in the world in mixed martial arts. We here at The League page would like to say we hope that Jon Jones gets through this rough patch with great success, and get back to doing what he loves. Everybody makes mistakes, but it's how we address them that truly defines an individual. Get well champ and move forward from this. You have our full support.
